How to Enter: 2014 Thrifty Finds Fashion Reconstruction Competition

#1. Payment of Entry Fee:

Submit your $30.00 entry fee via Paypal to thriftshophaute@gmail.com. Specify the name you wish to use as your designer name as well as your city.  Your name, designer name, and city will be posted on the list of contestants once your entry fee has been processed, and the JACKPOT prize will be updated to reflect the additional $25.00 you have now added ($5 going to Thrift Shop Haute operations as previously mentioned).

Refunds Explained:

*If we do not have 5 contestants by 12:01am April 30th, all entry fees will be refunded in full ($30.00) to you ASAP.

*If for any reason you decide to cancel prior to 12:01am April 30th and no longer wish to compete, you will only be refunded $25.00.

*APRIL 29TH IS THE LAST DAY TO CANCEL YOUR ENTRY FEE AND REQUEST A REFUND.

*At 12:01am on April 30th, you will no longer be eligible for a refund of any amount (unless we did not meet the minimum of 5 contestants, in which case you WILL receive your full refund)

*You will have until 11:59pm PST on Sunday, June 29th to pay your entry fee and submit your final reconstructed masterpiece, but since we can't keep you from accidentally paying us after the contest has already closed, if you do not realize that and you accidentally pay the entry fee after 11:59pm on Sunday, June 29th, you will be eligible for a $25 refund as we understand, mistakes happen.

#3. Get Thrifting:

Once you become an official contestant (and we determine that there are at LEAST 4 other contestants besides yourself... which happens on April 30th), then it is time for you to start thrift shopping for your one-of-a-kind finds to make the most unique, runway-worthy outfit!  One of the MAIN REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION is that you take a picture (front and back) of each article of clothing purchased from a thrift store for use in your end product, to include with your submission PRIOR TO ALTERING THE PIECE IN ANY WAY!  We are trusting all of you on the honor system that you are indeed purchasing your products from thrift shops, but since there is no way to prove that without shopping by your side, we are requiring a front and back photo of each garment that you will use in your final reconstructed outfit for submission.

You CAN start early (prior to April 30th) if you wish, but there can be no guarantee that the contest will not be cancelled on April 30th, and don't forget to take pictures of the garments prior to making ANY alterations.

#4. Constructing Your Reconstruction:

You can begin designing your piece whenever you'd like, but we recommend waiting until April 30th when it is decided ultimately whether the competition will be on officially or not (because, again, if we do not have 5 contestants signed up by April 30th, we will have to cancel the competition).

By way of being interested in this competition, you should already have a ton of ideas floating around in your head of the type of piece you'd like to create, but if you're struggling, Google "reconstructed fashion" for some inspiration.  Your piece should be a unique reflection of yourself and your own artistic ability.  That being said, the only way to win is to create something that will get you tons of votes on Facebook, and to promote your entry via social networking to reach the max amount of people possible.

#5. Submissions DUE JUNE 29TH, 2014 (which is also the closing date for the JACKPOT):

Assuming all goes as planned, all designers will have until 11:59pm PST on Sunday, June 29th to submit their entries for voting.  You can submit early to mark it off your to-do list, but you will have at least 2 months to work on your projects from the date the competition becomes official, which we feel is ample time to create just about anything.  Given that a lot of you may be in school, and April/May tends to be finals season, we wanted to ensure that you all have sufficient time.  All contestants who fail to submit their final masterpieces by the deadline will be eliminated from the competition. NO EXCEPTIONS.

That being said, if you are just now learning about this competition and there's only 1 week left, you are still eligible to enter to win, you just have ALOT less time to complete the project!  You will have until 11:59pm PST on Sunday, June 29th to pay your entry fee and submit your final reconstructed masterpiece, just like everybody else!

*Submit your entry to thriftshophaute@gmail.com, with the email title in this format:  "Reconstruction Entry - (your name) - (your city)"

A complete submission will include:

1. Your name/designer name (MUST be the name you registered with)

2. Your city

3. Brief description of yourself (1 paragraph - i.e. your school, what you're studying, occupation, goals pertaining to fashion design)

3. 2 pictures of EACH garment used to create your masterpiece (one of the front, one of the back), as well as a brief description of the item, WHERE you bought it, and what you paid for it - This is VERY IMPORTANT!!!  YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED WITHOUT THESE PICTURES!!! (Seriously, this is the only way to prove visually that the garment has been reconstructed, so without these pictures, it totally defeats the purpose of the competition!)

4. A brief description (1 paragraph) of your design process, what you did to create your piece, why you chose the items you did at the thrift store, etc.

5. 2 pictures of your masterpiece (one of the front, one of the back) - Your outfit should be modeled on a model of your choosing, on yourself, or on a mannequin.  These are the pictures that will make or break you in the competition so you need to be serious and display your artwork in the most flattering way possible, aka, on a real or fake body.  Also, pay attention to the lighting and please only MINIMAL EDITING (contrast/brightness).  You are ONLY allowed to submit 2 pictures of your finished outfit, and these 2 pictures will be used on our Facebook page to receive "likes", crediting you as the mastermind designer.  One picture needs to be titled, "Reconstructed Front" and one needs to be titled "Reconstructed Back".

#6. Voting:

Once all submissions have been received, reviewed, prepped for posting, all contestant entries (the 2 photos of your reconstructed masterpiece) will be posted simultaneously on our Facebook page so that the "likes" can start pouring in: www.facebook.com/thriftshophaute

Since we really have no way of knowing how popular this is going to be, the wait between submission deadline and the beginning of voting will be announced promptly after the final submission deadline, but not to exceed 2 weeks! (Can't imagine it would take longer than that, even if we had 100 submissions!)

On the day that voting begins, you will be encouraged to "like", promote "likes" for, share, share, and share your entry with anyone and everyone.  The more "likes" you are able to generate on your reconstructed masterpiece, the greater your chance is of winning the competition!  The voting phase will last for one month, and the closing date will also be announced with the voting beginning date.

#7. WINNING!

You will be crowned the 2014 Thrifty Finds Fashion Reconstruction Queen/King!!!  You will be featured on our blog and social networking sites as our winner, opening up the doors for networking in the fashion industry AND we will be happy to post any/all of your reconstructed creations in the future as a media and promotions outlet for you! 2nd and 3rd place contestants will also be featured on our blog, and we will be happy to serve as a media and promotions outlet for these contestants as well.

Finally, the GRAND PRIZE is a JACKPOT, and the formula is $25 multiplied by the number of contestants entered by the June 29th deadline, with no cap!  (MINIMUM of 5 contestants required by the end of April, so at a MINIMUM you could win $125, and if we do not have at least 5 contestants by the end of April, contest will be cancelled and your entry fee refunded in full so you have nothing to lose).  That being said, if we get 40 contestants, you could win $1,000!!!  Why stop there?  The possibilities are endless so make sure you SPREAD THE WORD because the more contestants we get, the greater your prize potential!!!  GOOD LUCK!!!
